The Awami National Party on monday came down hard on allegations that it was supporting Himayatullah Mayar, the Mardan Nazim accused of shielding the killers of Mashal Khan in 2016, and that it was merely supporting Himayatullah Mayar.

“We categorically reject all such allegations,” said former chief minister Amir Haider Hoti.

“I would also urge the media to take stock of the situation in its entirety.”

“If, from our support of Himayatullah Mayar, the media infers that we are supporting Himayatullah Mayar, then it is not performing the role of a responsible and free media,” he said.

“We have given him the ticket from PA-51 and have resposed our confidence in him,” he continued.

“Should that be taken to mean that we have confidence in him? That he is, somehow, our man?”

“Such flawed thinking reminds me of that time recently, when our statements against the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement were interpreted as our being against the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement.”
