11,000 MW electricity added to national grid: planning secretary

ISLAMABAD: Planning Secretary Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Friday said that a number of small and large energy projects were initiated due to the government’s efforts to overcome energy crisis, which resulted in the addition of around 11,000 MW to the national grid.

He was speaking in a meeting of the Pakistan-US Joint Working Group on energy which was held to review the overall performance of the group.

Shoaib said that the industrial revival could become possible after overcoming the energy crisis in the country and added that there has been an increase in economic growth to a record high level in 9 years.

During the meeting, it was decided that a study group on research and technical matters regarding energy sector would be established to enhance capacity building of the institutions and individuals involved in this sector.
