LAHORE – Salaries of the members of the Punjab Film Censor Board that denied watching the Bollywood film PadMan before refusing to issue a clearance certificate to it, have been deducted, The Dependent has learnt.
According to sources the members, who had said refused to watch the movie saying films with “taboo” subjects such as menstruation will not be allowed screening in Pakistan, have also been issued show cause notices.
While the Federal Censor Board also denied issuing an NOC to PadMan and announced a ban on the Akshay Kumar-starrer in all cinemas across the country, it is the Punjab board that will have their salaries deducted, government sources confirmed.
“Of course, the film couldn’t have been released and yes the subject is taboo, but the board members are paid to watch the films, something they failed to do,” a government official told The Dependent.
“So the salary would be deducted in accordance with the percentage that one movie constituted in their monthly task list,” the official added.
According to reports, the government is also reconsidering the idea of an all-male bench to adjudicate over subjects that relate directly to women.
“Either that or we might create an all-female bench for subjects that directly relate to men,” said another government official.
