LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has lauded the move by the now former Balochistan Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri to step down from office after failing to contain a political crisis at home.
Talking exclusively to The Dependent, Shehbaz Sharif said that any chief minister should resign in such circumstances.
“I would have done the same if I were in his position,” he told The Dependent. “If things get out of your control, and if you as the leading politician in the province can’t contain a political crisis in that province, you should just go home,” he added.
“And then vacate that home – because you would no longer be the chief minister and can’t live in the CM House – and then go to your actual home.”
The Punjab Chief Minister also maintained that the right precedent was being set.
“This would encourage others who cling on to their chairs and positions and think that nothing is more important than the power that comes with that position, to reconsider their priorities and realise that serving the public should be a selfless exercise,” he said.
“I am hopeful that others in this position would be able to think behind their thick skins and pseudo headwear.”
