Donald Trump, a politician, businessman and social media celebrity went missing on Wednesday from Islamabad under mysterious circumstances. He had, in the last couple of days, made a series of tweets against the Pakistani establishment.
“I had spoken to him last night at seven in the evening and he had told me he was coming back for dinner,” said his distraught wife, Melania, while speaking to reporters. “When it got late, I called him again, but his number had been switched off.”
“This is typical behaviour of the Pakistani deep state,” said Hamid Khan Mohmand, a free speech activist.
“They just cannot tolerate a difference of opinion. Anything not completely in line with what the state has decreed is deemed ‘anti-national’.” Even though civil society activists have been organising marches demanding his release, there has also been a backlash on social media from quarters deemed sympathetic to the establishment.
“First of all, there is no proof that our agencies are involved,” said Gvay P@kisTAN, the admin of a Facebook community called D3F3nd3rs oF P@kistan. “And if they were, this RAW agent deserved this for being in bed with Modi.”
