ISLAMABAD – After rejecting the names proposed by the government and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for the appointment of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman, accusing both of striking and underhand deal, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman on Thursday suggested that any World Cup winning captain from Mianwali would fit the billing.
“It is important to have somebody that we can trust,” Khan said while talking to the media. “And as far as trust is concerned I can personally vouch for someone from Mianwali, who has won the World Cup, and perhaps with the surname beginning with K,” he added.
Addressing questions over bias and prejudice, Khan said that he wants every stakeholder on board.
“There’s a reason why I haven’t mentioned the sport. The chairman could be any former captain from Mianwali who has won a World Cup,” Khan maintained. “I haven’t even suggested which letter the first name should begin with.
Khan continued, “But if you ask me, I would say I…” he left the sentence seemingly unfinished.
Under the law, the prime minster and the opposition leader in the National Assembly finalise the name for the appointment of the NAB chief with mutual consultation.
“World Cup winning captains from Mianwali should be the opposition leader and then prime minister,” maintains Imran Khan.
Meanwhile, the PTI has formed a 12-member committee to finalise the name of the World Cup winning captain as their NAB nominee.
