In a surprising turn of events James Rodriguez has found his escape from the Real Madrid bench in the shape of a two-year loan to Bayern Munich. Previously linked to Premier Champions Chelsea as well as Manchester United, Bayern have swooped the frustrated Real Madrid man.
Rodriguez, only 25 years old, joined Real Madrid in 2014 for €79.8 million by current Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti. Colombia captain Rodriguez, the top scorer at the 2014 World Cup, was signed by Ancelotti during the Italian’s two-year spell as Real manager. Under the management of Zinedine Zidane, however, he made only 22 appearances last season. With the world cup coming up next year, James would want to get in more playing time.
“Signing James Rodríguez was our coach Carlo Ancelotti’s biggest wish,” Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said.
James has been included in the squad for Bayern’s 12 day tour of China and Singapore.
It seems Bayern have seen James as a back-up plan after missing out on top priority, Alexis Sanchez. James is a player that offers a lot of versatility and is a big name for an already strong Bayern Squad. However, he isn’t quite the player that Bayern needed to help their weaknesses. They already have many creative players in the midfield. It would be interesting to see how James fits into this title winning Bayern squad.
