All the times we took satire too seriously

Quite recently Pakistan Today launched a weekly satirical publication called ‘The Dependent.’ The publication takes up a number of  issues including politics, arts, sports, and local incidents.

And while everyone reading this should definitely check out The Dependent we’re afraid people don’t quite always get the meaning of the word ‘satire’ we post everywhere as a necessary disclaimer.

Satire-Definition

For the benefit of those that don’t know what satire is.

While the response has been great, every time PT posts something clearly marked as satire, there are always those that end up missing our clear categorisation of what news coming from the dependent is.

Like this time people actually thought we sent away the delegation of a foreign country without offering them water:

This gentleman from New Delhi’s serious treatment of the post started a fight over the merits and effects of CPEC . . .

And this local social media pundit thought Pakistan was finally realising keeping people thirsty is the way to solve international problems:

The more believable it is, the more difficult it is to identify satire, and this one was admittedly little confusing:

This person got really really passionate

And he wasn’t the only one

In trying to find the logical argument, this man missed the whole point

And this man was just really really on point:

We’ll admit, this has been a bit of a running gag:

He thought Imran Khan was actually getting this petty

And so did she

People really seemed to enjoy getting analytical

While it may have been misguided, this guy proved the game is bigger than the player

Maybe we’re being too hard on Mr Khan:

But people keep seeming to believe he actually said this stuff. Hmm, wonder why?

Case in point

Case 2

Others were just really really woke

We can’t blame people for thinking this wasn’t satire because Chaudhry Nisar did recently  suggest banning facebook;

This lady wanted to keep Chaudhry Nisar’s personal problems with Zuckerberg to be kept out of policy matters

This person said the Interior Minister was acting immaturely. Irony much?

The people that stayed woke

While the earlier siliness was a strange mixture of sad and funny, we have to hand it to our audience, especially the ones that kept trying to explain to people what was actually up:

This guy didn’t know whether to laugh or cry

He was just done with people thinking any of this stuff was true

Mr Ehsan tried his best to guide an errant friend

Some of them just left with a quiet word

And this man wrapped things up by attributing some serious supernatural powers to us
