- Letter says that radiation from towers causes brain tumours, high blood pressure and is killing residents silently
The Emergency and Disaster Management (E&DM) unit of Capital Development Authority (CDA) wrote a letter to the Pakistan Telecom Authority chairman demanding that it must take stern action against radiation being spread by mobile towers and relocate them as they pose serious health issues to public at large.
The letter said that mobile towers are causing critical health constraints across Pakistan, especially in the capital. It said that the trend of these towers is responsible to give birth to ‘billions of complicated diseases like brain tumours, high blood pressure, high sugar, glaucoma etc followed by carcinoma like homicides’.
The letter further read, “The rate of sudden strokes, cardiac arrests, heart attacks, liver tribulations and overall body response and well-being has been adversely affected due to high-grade radiations thrown by these towers within the residential areas in particular and generally every bit and corner of the capital city.”
Thermal and non thermal effects, blood brain barrier effects, electronegative hypersensitivity genotypic and cognitive effects, sleep and EEG effects, brain glucose consumption issues and other behavioral and genetic effects are severely bringing surreptitious diseases to public at large, it added.
The letter further said that it had requested for a policy review, by relocating all such high grade radiation emitting gadgetry away from residential areas, thus assuring life and safety of the innocent residents in every street, sector and colony of the capital.
The E&DM unit also advised to take four steps that can play their role in mitigating the damage in future. Starting with massive awareness campaign for general public like tobacco companies couple of years back, the letter further requested the relocation of these towers away from residential areas away to the suburbs promising CDA’s enforcement department and Building Control Section will help in all possible ways. The letter warned of a crackdown against illegally erected towers and action will be taken by law enforcement agencies.
During past couple of months, three mobile towers of different telecom companies have fallen during monsoon season. One tower collapsed near Rawalpindi court. Fortunately, no loss to death occurred, however damage to property was compensated by companies in an attempt to resolve matters out of courts.
Microwave expert Barrie Trower makes it VERY CLEAR that these towers should be placed MILES from civilian populations.
