NAB chairman says zero tolerance for corruption inside NAB

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry on Wednesday reiterated his resolve to continue the policy of zero tolerance against corruption within the NAB.

At the same time, he encouraged the officers to perform their duties without any fear of negative propaganda campaigns launched by lobbies with vested interests. He said that NAB is in the process of augmenting its drive against corruption with renewed zeal and energy.

The NAB chairman chaired a meeting to review progress on the implementation of Internal Accountability Mechanism (IAM) introduced in NAB with a view to making its internal procedure more accountable and transparent.

THERE IS NOW A NAB INSIDE NAB:

Under the Internal Accountability Mechanism (IAM), all complaints against NAB employees are scrutinised and investigated by the Chairman’s Inspection and Monitoring Team (CI& MT).

During the briefing, the HRM DG said that disciplinary proceedings had been initiated against 83 officials during the last two and a half years, out of which 60 cases had been finalised with 22 major penalties, 34 minor penalties and 4 exonerated.

The chairman said that the NAB action under NAO against the government functionaries on corruption and corrupt practices will be credible only if the criminals within NAB are also held accountable.

A NAB officer should have impeccable integrity and must maintain discipline as he or she holds others accountable. Disciplinary matters are important for efficiency and effective performance of a system.

The NAB chairman further said that whereas good work in NAB will be appreciated, the institution will take stern action against its own officials by examining the complaints against them. He directed to submit regular reports to the HQ on this matter.
