The government has finally decided to launch an operation against the feared Sunni terrorist outfit, the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, and other militant groups involved in fomenting unrest in Balochistan.
The decision was taken in a meeting attended by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, the Quetta corps commander, the Balochistan inspector general (IG) police and the Frontier Corps IG.
Dr Baloch was made in-charge of the operation against Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.
It is important to mention that the decision to launch an operation against terrorists was taken following an attack on Shias in Mastung that killed 29 pilgrims on Tuesday.
Hazara community ended its sit-in protest after assurances from federal ministers Chaudhry Nisar and Pervez Rasheed on Thursday.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar and Information Minister Pervez Rasheed reached Quetta on Thursday. After being briefed by CM Baloch about demands of the bereaved families, the federal ministers consoled with Hazara community and assured to do everything in its capacity to chase the perpetrators and bring them in the court of justice.
The federal ministers also said the Hazara community is peaceful and patriot, adding the whole nation stands united in solidarity with the community. Chaudhry Nisar said that government has no objection over any demand of the Hazara community and that the government will avenge the injustices done to the community. Following the government’s assurance, leaders of the Hazara community had ended the protest.
SEARCH OPERATION IN MASTUNG
Acting as per the demands of the Hazara community’s countrywide protests, the security forces on Friday detained at least 20 suspected individuals during a full-scale operation against terrorists in Kanak and Derringer areas of Mastung.
Troops of the Frontier Corps, police, the Anti-Terrorist Force (ATF), Levies and recruits from Balochistan Constabulary jointly carried out the operation. The forces are also assisted by helicopters and armoured personnel carriers.
Meanwhile, the entry and exit points of Kanak and Derringer were sealed shortly before the search operation.
A spokesman of the FC said that the targeted operation was launched early Friday morning in various areas of district Mastung. Several suspicious people were rounded up by the FC, the spokesman added.
He said that over 350 personnel are taking part in the operation including the police force, adding two helicopters are also being used to oversee the operation.
