ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has directed all the prospective candidates to attach party tickets with their nomination papers for Senate election at the time of their submission to the returning officer concerned.

In a press statement, ECP secretary said in case of any reason, the party ticket or certificate is not attached by the candidate at the time of submission of nomination papers, then it must be produced at the time of scrutiny.

He said in case of independent candidates, no such certificate is required.

The ECP will announce the election schedule for 52 Senate seats on February 2.

Earlier on Tuesday, a brief notification said: “The ECP has approved the schedule for the conduct of Senate election 2018 and notification in this regard will be issued on the 2nd of next month.”

With the announcement of the poll schedule, half of the Senate seats—52 out of 104 seats—will fall vacant and the poll body will hold elections in March.

Of the 52 seats, Punjab and Sindh provinces will have 12 seats each and Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will have 11 seats each, respectively. FATA will have four seats and the Islamabad Capital Territory will have two seats.

Meanwhile, the ECP has issued notification of appointment of returning officers and polling officers for conducting Senate elections.
