As expected we are at a deadlock on a caretaker PM. Many retired judges have been rejected on one pretext or the other and so have politicians been. What I do not understand is as to why the caretaker PM slot so important? He just has to run day to day affairs of the government and his primary task is to hold free and fair election, which task too will be performed by ECP. The caretaker PM has to oversee and ensure that the ECP does things within the constitution and it is given all security aid from agencies. He does not have to be biased for or against any contesting factions and even if he is, he cannot do anything outside the purview of election norms and the constitution.
In my opinion, the deadlock on decision is not about a person but it is a matter of ego. To break this deadlock, let us nominate any retired general from Pakistan Armed Forces to act as interim PM. If a retired admiral can head NAB, why can’t we find a general to be interim PM? I have no name in mind as most of the generals too have tarnished backgrounds, but I am somehow hopeful that there might be some general who would have pure army career and no dirty politics or dirty hands.
