As elsewhere, Eidul Azha was celebrated in the metropolis with zeal in commemoration of the “great sacrifice” of Prophet Ibrahim (AS). Atleast 1,000 Namaz-i-Eid congregations were held at mosques, Imambargahs, parks and open places of the metropolis. The main Eid congregation was held at the Gulshan-i-Jinnah (Old Polo Ground) where Sindh Governor, Dr Ishrat ul Ebad Khan, offered Eid prayer along with members of the diplomatic corps, ministers, elected representatives and elites of the city. After offering prayers, able Muslims sacrificed animals as per the Ibrahamic tradition. Meanwhile, residents of the city did not deem fit the arrangements of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) for the removal of the offals of the sacrificed animals. On the three days of Eid, 20,000 police personnel were deployed in the city for security and the Special branch deployed personnel in plain clothes at sensitive sites of the city.
