Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed said the number of sightless people in Pakistan had crossed the 1.6 million mark. The KMC will provide jobs to six blind persons under the quota for the disabled.
He said this while speaking on an iftar dinner organized jointly by KMC and Amigos Talking Library for blinds in the seminar hall of civic center. Senior Director Muhammad Rehan Khan, representative of blind people Anwer Masih and large number of blind people were present in the program in which ration, clothes, sewing machines and other gifts were distributed among the blind people.
The administrator on this occasion expressed concern over the regular increase in the number of people with visual impairment. He said KMC was making all possible efforts for their welfare and well being. We all need to make collective efforts for making these people useful members of our society by solving their problems.
He said it sounds good that the blind people too want to earn their livelihood respectfully by not putting any burden on the society. He said latest and computerized eye ailments treatment was now available in Pakistan and these are cure able. He also asked the private institutions and multinational companies to provide jobs to blind people in their offices and factories so that they could earn livelihood for their family.
APML demands justice for gang rape victim
KARACHI: All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) ladies wing leader Noshin Jamshed has strongly condemned an inhuman act of kidnapping and gang rape with a girl in Daharki, a city of District Ghotki. According to an APML press release issued here on Thursday, she said the victim was gang raped by the culprits on three consecutive days but now they were being pressurized and threatened by the area SHO to retract the rape allegations. The APML leader asked the president, prime minister, governor and Sindh chief minister to take stern action against the perpetrators and provide justice to the victim. NNI
