The country’s biggest jailbreak was successfully executed by the militants in Bannu despite earlier warnings issued by the intelligence agencies earlier this year on the 5th of January where four main points were demarcated as prospective targets that included the Bannu Police station at the top of the list. Various letters had been issued by them to inform the concerned authorities, but due to high levels of professional negligence not much heed was paid to such a significant piece of intelligence information.
This highlights the facts that intelligence reports of such serious nature was not taken seriously or even if it was, it remained so in letter and not in spirit as no concrete action was taken upon it by all those concerned and responsible for the security of the Jail that had housed so many hardcore criminals.
The police station, however, should have been at high alert, with or without intelligence warnings. This colossal administrative failure does not only damage our credibility but severely undermines the efforts of our security personnel who had taken great pains to capture all these militants.
Surely, this serves as fodder for all those who have cast doubts upon the sincerity of Pakistan in the WOT. The inability of the civil administration to consolidate the gains of the war is just one example where lack of interest makes life difficult for the Pakistanis. What do they wait for? Their term to attain completion? Wouldn’t it be better if it did so with a positive contribution too? Why are matters of such significance left for others to address while personal gains are consolidated in parliament?
