While appreciating the Export Promotion Strategy of Pakistan Gems and Jewelry Development Company (PGJDC), Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has constituted a committee consisting of Secretaries of Finance, Commerce, Productions Divisions and Chairman of FBR to submit a summary to the ECC.
The Committee would suggest recommendations to increase the export of valuable gems and jewelry for which there is big international market to realize the target of $5.5 billion by 2016-2017.
The Prime Minister gave these directions during a meeting of Promotion Strategy that he chaired for export of gems and jewelry here at the PM House today.
It was emphasized in the meeting that equal focus should be given to the manufacturing and marketing of the gems and jewelry produced in the country.
The Prime Minister was apprised that five training institutes of international standard located at Lahore, Karachi, Peshwar, Quetta and Gilgit were imparting training to the youth who would go in the field to harness the full potential of the industry. In addition to five training institutes, PDMC also established five gems testing laboratories to promote genuine businesses and facilitate the customers both at home and abroad, the CEO said.
The Prime Minister said that he would visit the institutes in Lahore and Peshwar at his earliest convenience.
The Secretary Commerce said that the Ministry of Commerce would be happy to facilitate the export of gems and jewelry by removing the procedural irritants and even revisiting the earlier decisions to enhance its export.
He said that under the auspicious of TDAP, Dazzle Park was being set up in Karachi, which would provide the state of the art facilities to the manufacturers of gems and jewelry to showcase products in an exciting environment and PGJDC would be taken in the loop.
