  • Kaira questions what ‘sin’ NAB chairman has committed

Following Nawaz Sharif’s claims that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) members were being ‘threatened’ to join hands with Imran Khan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Naeemul Haque said that “he does not agree with Nawaz”.

The PTI leader said this while talking to a private news outlet on Thursday,

Nawaz while addressing an emergency presser in Islamabad earlier on Thursday said, “People from my party PML-N are being told they should leave and join PTI or contest elections as independent candidates and if they do not do so, then NAB will open cases against them.”

Giving his two cents on NAB’s inquiry against Nawaz and others for allegedly laundering $4.9 billion to India, Naeem admitted that the accountability bureau has made a mistake.

Commenting on Nawaz’s criticism of NAB, Naeem said that the PML-N is undergoing turmoil currently.

However, he went on to say that suspicions against Nawaz were justified as in the past, he has laundered money. “NAB did the right thing as Nawaz has laundered so much money in the past,” he said.

“NAB did take a step further by issuing a press release of the probe but institutions are supposed to initiate investigations,” he added.

Claiming that the CIA director was not removed from his post over a wrong inquiry, Haque said, “These institutions are supposed to conduct inquiries on initial reports.”

On the other hand, reacting to Nawaz’s presser, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Qamar Zaman Kaira questioned what ‘sin’ the NAB chairman has committed.

“What has the NAB chairman done which is so wrong? He just asked for verification of the report,” the PPP leader said regarding the former premier’s demand that the NAB chairman apologises and resigns within 24 hours if he fails to provide evidence against him.

“The accountability hasn’t started an investigation against Nawaz or filed a reference,” Kaira said, adding that it is Nawaz’s policy to fight the institutions and create clashes between them.

On Nawaz’s remarks regarding 70 appearances before the court, Kaira shared that the delay is being caused by Sharif family’s lawyers. “If their lawyer spent 15 days cross-examining one witness, then the case proceedings will be delayed,” he concluded.
