4 new SC judges sworn in

Four new Supreme Court judges took oath of their office on Thursday in a simple ceremony held at the Supreme Court building.
The oath was administered by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry. The judges who took oath included Justice Ejaz Afzal, JusticeEjaz Ahmad Chaudhary, Justice Azhar Saeed and Justice Gulzar Ahmad.
It may be recalled that four posts of judges in SC had fallen vacant following the retirement of Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmad, Justice MA Shahid Siddiqui and adhoc judge Justice Ghulam Rabbani.
Judicial Commission recommended the four names to parliamentary committee in this connection, and President Asif Ali Zardari accorded the final approval on this count.
After the oath of four new judges, the total number of judges in the Supreme Court now stands 17.
Meanwhile, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed took oath as new Chief Justice of the LHC on Thursday following incumbent Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry’s elevation to Supreme Court.
Azmat Saeed took oath as 40th Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court at a ceremony held at Governor’s House.
Punjab Governor Latif Khosa administered the oath.
