Student festivities

Talking of moral standards, we, as a nation, have been on the wane lately. So low happens to be our ethical values that even our educational institutions are not spared. Recent students’ week in University of Karachi is a perfect example of this.

On the one hand, students were seen doing many positive and healthy activities, while on the other, some student organisations continued to play havoc with the institution’s prestige. It was quite sad to see some students dancing to the music of different songs – most of them were substandard – near central library. And unfortunately it all happened in the name of ‘fun’.

Such vulgar mixed gatherings should not be accepted, especially in an educational institution. So far as the KU is concerned, majority of the students are against such practices. The authorities weren’t unaware of the problem at first, but they turned a blind eye to this problem when they got to know about it.

Moreover, such activities can inflame religious sentiment in the campus and turn to a clash between student organisations as we have seen in the past. The idleness of administration in such a situation puts a big question mark hanging on its performance. I request the concerned officials to take appropriate measures to stop such activities within the premises.
