Defying the Punjab government’s order of banning rallies on The Mall Road, hundred of Islamist students and activists belonging to different Madaris of religious parties blocked traffic and burned tyres for over six hours on 1 October 2011 while protesting against a court verdict awarding a double death penalty to Mumtaz Qadri in Governor Salmaan Taseer murder case.
The protestors were carrying wooden clubs and sticks and were chanting slogans against the court decision. This protest of the religious activists reflects how law of the land has become a toy for everyone.
How a policeman who was under oath to protect the governor in the line of duty, set aside his oath and took law into his hands became an executor and killed the governor without any legal justification.
Those who demonstrated in front of the jail after the verdict was announced, chanted slogans in favour of Qadri and claimed that thousands more Qadris would rise if he was hanged.
This should be an eye-opener for those who are support the idea that religion is a state affair. There is an urgent need to ban all those outfits and religious political parties who are using religion to justify murders in the name of glory of Islam. It is in the national interest to reform the blasphemy laws which were passed by the parliament in 1986 under the dictator General Zia-ul-Haq.
The judge’s court room who sentenced to death the killer of slain Salmaan Taseer, has been ransacked by dozens of furious lawyers, smashing windows to protest against the judgment. It is unfortunate that the lawyers who are expected to respect the laws of the land, instead of supporting the rule of law, are demanding the transfer the judge and are boycotting the judge’s court because the verdict is unacceptable to them. This really has exposed huge fault lines in Pakistan society.

I agree you my brother. Today these fanatics are claiming their possession and control over this state, despite the fact that everyone knows their forefathers from JUI, JTI etc were against the creation of Pakistan and went on shutter down strikes when sub-continent was divided. These people should not be dealt with leniency, they deserve shoot at site orders from the Govt.
