ONE can see a lot of advertisements in the print media highlighting the achievements of the PPP government on completion of three years. A large amount of taxpayers’ money has been squandered on these advertisements.
A cursory glance over the prices of consumer items from March 25, 2008 to March 25, 2011, shows skyrocketing and unprecedented inflation. Prices of essential consumers’ items three years ago and now show that the people are crushed under the escalating inflation. Increased prices of petrol and diesel, followed by power and gas tariff, added to consumers’ woes.
After assuming power, the government came out with many programmes and development schemes. But it seems that putting a check on prices was never on the priority list. If the government wants welfare of the people, it should decrease the profit on oil and also be thrifty.
