Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has said that the problem of law and order in Karachi has become a political issue and certain elements were active to further worsen the situation in order to prevent Senate elections in March next year.
The Prime Minister said this while taking his Cabinet colleagues into confidence about the situation in the mega city. The Prime Minster informed the Cabinet about Karachi situation and said he has issued categorical instructions to Sindh Government to improve the situation. He hoped that the situation would improve soon.
Sources said that the cabinet expressed its serious concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi and some Ministers gave their suggestions. One Minister said that in 1993-94 former Interior Minister Naseerullah Babar worked with determination and give full power to the police which lead to restoration of complete peace. He said if police were given a free hand and there was no intervention from any side, peace could be restored.
The Prime Minister said that Senate elections would be held on schedule and peace would be restored in Karachi.
