Pakistan is firmly committed to promotion and protection of religious freedoms and the Parliament and the Government have been particularly active in pursuing this goal.
This has been stated by Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States Sherry Rehman while talking to Dr. Katrina Lantos‚ Chair of the US Commission on International Freedom‚ who called on her in Washington.
Sherry Rehman noted that the minorities make invaluable contributions to the development‚ peace and prosperity of Pakistan. She said the government is committed to fully harnessing their potential and contributions in all walks of life.
Dr. Swett apprised Pakistan’s Ambassador of her Commission’s work and interest in promoting religious freedoms around the world.
She praised Ambassador Sherry Rehman for her personal commitment to the protection and promotion of religious freedom and minority rights in Pakistan.
Ambassador Rehman noted that she was particularly pained to see the rise in religious intolerance across the globe including in the United States. She stressed that interfaith harmony can be promoted through collective and concerted efforts, which required greater understanding of each other’s sensitivities.
