Peace in Karachi

The recent bout of violence in Karachi has claimed scores of lives and suggests that large swathes of the city are out of the control of the local police and the provincial government. The police have a central role in maintaining law and order but from the looks of it, they have absolutely no say in catching those involved in Karachi’s target killings.

The Rangers are also deployed in the city but the tragic killing of Sarfaraz Shah has sullied their image in the eyes of the general public.

Unless all political stakeholders get together on a common platform and give priority to the grievances of the people of the city and tackle this issue of target killing, there is little chance of peace in Karachi.
