The PML-Q’s anti-Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain leaders visited Karachi on Tuesday and held consultative meeting with their likeminded colleagues from Sindh in an attempt to unite them under a separate platform.
Political observers said it could also be an attempt to bond the anti-PPP personalities in Sindh into a grouping that would possibly be a part of the proposed grand alliance against the government.
Owais Leghari, Ishaq Khakwani and Sikandar Bosan held a meeting at residence of former PML-Q minister Syed Murad Ali Shah where Maqbool Shaikh, MPA, Muhammad Ali Malkani and others were also present.
Murad told journalists that they held consultations on prevailing political situation; however, any decision about taking a political strategy could be made while taking in view the future line of action of major political parties. However, Maqbool said the friends had gathered at a dinner and there was no political agenda.
It is pertinent to mention that the PML-Q Sindh chapter is already divided after end of Musharraf regime. A number of them had formed their own party in leadership of former Sindh Chief Minister Liaquat Ali Jatoi while some others joined the Punjabi Pakhtun Ittehad led by former education minister Irfanullah Marwat.
Reportedly, Liaquat Jatoi and former minister for fisheries Sardar Manzoor Panwher did not attended the meeting.
Interestingly, PML-F leader Jahangir Tareen was among the participants and his presence was not understandable given the fact that his party is still a part of the coalition government.
Another PML-F leader from Sindh, Imtiaz Shaikh, reiterated his party’s stance to continue supporting President Asif Ali Zardari.
