ISLAMABAD – Hard-core religious parties of the country on Wednesday said they were mulling to launch a movement against what they called a “surprise release” of the US national Raymond Davis, who killed two Pakistanis in Lahore in January.
In reaction to the development, Sahibzada Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair, head both of Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan and Tahaffaz-e-Namoos-e-Risalat Mahaz, said the circumstances prove that the heirs of those killed by the US national were pressured to accept compensation under Diyat. “There is something fishy and the Punjab government played a major role in the release of Davis,” he said.
Zubair said religious parties would discuss launching a movement to get rid of American subjugation as they did for safeguarding Namoos-e-Risalat. He said the rulers had compromised the sovereignty of the country. Sahibzada Fazal Karim, chief of the Sunni Tehreek, called Davis’ release an attack on Pakistan’s sovereignty, which he said had disappointed the entire nation.
