Three die as suicide bomber strikes Swabi police lines

PESHAWAR: Three people, including two police constables, were killed and another eight injured in a suicide attack at Swabi Police Lines on Monday. The bomber blew himself up outside the Shah Mansoor compound of the police lines.
According to details, four assailants, including the suicide bomber, arrived at the lines by a car and opened indiscriminate fire at the police guards at the gate, killing two officials.
The attackers then tried to enter the lines, but officials deployed inside the premises opened fire and killed one of the assailants, forcing the suicide bomber to blow himself up there and then, injuring eight policemen. The other two attackers managed to escape.
A man, Sher Afzal, who was waiting at the main gate, was also injured in the gun battle. He later succumbed to injuries on way to hospital. District Police Officer Sirajul Hassan told reporters that police had found an explosives-packed jacket, hand grenades and Kalashnikov rifle from the gunned-down attacker.
He said police had put the security on high alert and a hunt was on to arrest the two attackers.
