More than 100 constables and lower cadre officials from the Lahore Police protested inside Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines on Tuesday against senior officials for delaying their salaries, said sources from the Lahore Police Operations Wing. However Rai Nazar, the capital city police officer’s (CCPO) spokesman denied any such protest.
Police sources said about 700 lower cadre police officials’ salaries had been delayed. Nazar, Qila Gujjar Singh Police Station Muharrar, was appointed to disburse salaries at the police lines to those who didn’t have bank accounts.
Police sources said the constables etc protested inside the police lines and shouted slogans against officials who they said were delaying their salaries by 12 days, making their predicament worse than factory workers.
A constable who asked not to be named told Pakistan Today the protesters were assured they would be paid by October 12 but they were not. He said, “Most of us are from out of town and are living here on rent with our families. We are having severe financial problems because our salaries are delayed.”
Police sources said CCPO Muhammad Aslam Tareen had directed SP Headquarters to take immediate action and had also suspended Muharrar Nazar for 15 days on account of the delay. However, Nazar was reinstated after he promised to disburse the salaries promptly, sources added.
