ISLAMABAD - Around 2.1 million children are born with mental disorders each year because of iodine deficiency in pregnant women in Pakistan. According to health experts, iodine deficiency in the mother leads to stillbirth, miscarriage and birth of children with mental disorders, lack of cognitive abilities and congenital abnormalities like deafness, dumbness and stunted growth. KARACHI - Five robbers stormed into a private bank at Shahrah-e-Waqas in the Saeedabad area of Baldia Town and took away Rs 3.2 million on Saturday. Police said that the five robbers disguised as customers entered the United Bank Limited (UBL) branch at around 11:15 am and held the bank staff hostage at gunpoint after overpowering the security guard.

ISLAMABAD - A mega scam in the federal Interior Ministry involving embezzlement of Rs 825 million is in the making, as officials have not provided auditors with the details of the money credited into the government's account.
