Akhuwat holds vigil at Canal
LAHORE - Akhuwat, a microfinance organisation which lends interest-free loans, organised a vigil at the Canal Bank to express solidarity with the poor. The vigil rally started from the Jail Road Underpass and ended at the Mall Road Underpass. Participants were holding lights, placards and banners in support of a more equitable society. LAHORE - Amjad Islam Amjad said that it was wrong to assume that the current generation only had a superficial liking for literature and poetry and that the mechanical age has destroyed all love for language and literature. Kashf holds competition for children
LAHORE - The Kashf Foundation organised an annual naat competition in connection with Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) on Sunday. The competition was held for Kashf's clients' children, most of whom belonged to low income households.

Shalimar Institute holds a gathering for its friends
LAHORE - Shalimar Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS) held a gathering titled "Friends of Shalimar" on Friday. Trustees, socialists and politicians from all over the city attended the gathering. LAHORE - An Inter-Collegiate and Inter-University debate competition was held at the Lahore College and Women's University. The competition was organised by the English debates society. The participant colleges included Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Government College University, Queen Mary College, Samanabad College and College of Home Economics.

School for underprivileged children holds musical day
LAHORE - The Welfare Finishing School of Rukhsana Foundation, a school for underprivileged children, celebrated its annual music day last month. Foundation Chairperson Rukhsana Tahirkheli was the chief guest and students performed various acts, which were appreciated by the audience. The foundation supports more than 120 underprivileged and poor students by providing them with free education. The foundation mostly helps children whose parents are scavengers and work on daily wages.
