LCWU holds poetry competition

LAHORE – Amjad Islam Amjad said that it was wrong to assume that the current generation only had a superficial liking for literature and poetry and that the mechanical age has destroyed all love for language and literature. He was addressing the students after a poetry competition on the last day of the 6-day intercollegiate competitions at the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU).
Students from Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Government Islamia College, Queen Mary College, Government Jinnah Degree College, Government Post Graduate College Samanabad, Government Post Graduate College Wahdat Colony and Home Economics College participated in the competitions. Riffat Saqlain and Dr Hamala Khalid were the chief guests.
LCWU Societies Coordinator Shireen Asad said that the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes for Ghazal Competition were won by Neha Tariq from Government Jinnah Degree College, Mehwish Rakhshanda from Government Islamia College and Faiza Shah from Queen Mary College respectively. Poetry Competition was won by Iram Shaukat from Government Postgraduate College while Anum Abbas from Government Islamia College and Kaniz Fatima from Government Jinnah Degree College stood second and third respectively.
The consolation prize was won by Samreen Javed from Queen Mary College. The overall trophy was awarded to Government Jinnah Degree College. Famous orators and poets, Najaf Zaidi and Rakhshanda Naveed and a writer, Muzammil Ali Agha joined as judges. The title for the Ghazal Competition was ‘Gai hai fikr e pareshan kahan kahan meri’ and the title for the Poetry Competition was ‘Justajoo’.
GCU’S SPORTS GALA ON SUNDAY: The annual sports gala of the Government College University Lahore is going to be held at the university’s Oval Ground at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 20. The sports gala features Gymkhana events including a ministerial staff race, naib qasid race, four legged race (boys), cricket ball throw (girls), pillow fighting, staff children race, wheel barrow race, 60 meters race (for Old Ravians above 35 years), stilt race, sack race, gymnastic display, obstacle race, musical chairs (ladies), staff members handicap race, male staff race, female staff race and Old Ravians’ handicap race.
GCU Director Sports Khadim Ali Khan said the gala will be followed by the prize distribution ceremony for the winners of GCU 110th Annual Sports.
