MANAMA - Protests in Bahrain are starting to make forays away from the central square in Manama and into different parts of the city, pressing the Sunni-led government for swift democratic reform.
Since thousands of protesters took to the streets two weeks ago there has been no formal dialogue between the government and the opposition, mainly majority Muslim Shi'ites, who say they are shut out of good jobs, decent healthcare and housing.

ISLAMABAD - Punjab stood first in violence against women in 2010 registering 5492 of the total 8000 incidents reported through out the Pakistan during the same year. WASA staff’s protest for raise in salaries continues
HAFIZABAD - The protest of Water Management Department's employees, demanding increase in their salaries, entered the 8th day. The joint action committee leaders, Zafar Iqbal, Mazaffar Siddique and Amir Shahzad said the government was neither regularising employees nor was it raising their salaries though highly educated engineers, agriculture experts, sub-engineers and computer programmers, serving in the department.

KARACHI - Surging government budgetary borrowing and a consequent swell in inflation has increased financial woes of the poverty-stricken masses. According to provisional data revealed by the State Bank of Pakistan, government borrowing from banks stood at Rs 394.348 billion in the first seven months of financial year 2010-11 compared to Rs 243.876 billion in the last corresponding period, exhibiting a 61.7 percent rise.

LSE continues to lose volume
LAHORE - The Lahore Stock Exchange (LSE) remained bearish with a further decline in the volume. The LSE 25-index lost 29.67 points to close at 3,723.53 against its opening at a level of 3,753.20. LAHORE - Gas pressure in the city remained low on Saturday causing problems for consumers while in some areas, supply was completely suspended. Consumers criticised the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) saying that the company has failed to provide gas to domestic, industrial and commercial users.

LAHORE - Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has stopped gas supplies to the CNG stations and the industrial sector to facilitate domestic users, but consistent power and gas outages faced by domestic consumers continued on Saturday.
