The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched an investigation into the alleged corruption that marred the affairs of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), a private media outlet reported Monday.

According to reports, a seven-member investigation team of the FIA has started probing the alleged corruption in wake of the Supreme Court’s orders and 10 years’ audit report of the national flag carrier’s affairs.

The committee, comprising assistant directors, inspectors and sub-inspectors, has been provided a workroom in the PIA head office as well. The team will stay at the office for five days a week and submit its report on 34 different issues.

According to the audit report, PIA suffered losses worth Rs360 billion since 2008. It incurred losses worth Rs28 billion in 2001, Rs36 billion in 2008, Rs45 billion in 2016, and 44 billion in 2017. 88 per cent of the losses were caused during the past ten years because of higher expenditures than the airline’s income.

Moreover, the recruitments in PIA were also made on a political basis, the report said.
