RAWALPINDI: Federal Minister of Railway Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad on Monday linked the economic prosperity of the country with the development of its railway department.
While speaking at an event of a government school in Rawalpindi, the minister said, “Within 100 days of the new government, we launched 10 trains which are tantamount to 20.”
If the railway does not progress then the country’s economy cannot grow either, the minister stressed.
“We will run trains for Sikh community till Nankana Sahib and Kartarpur. Hotels will also be constructed near all Sikh pilgrimage sites,” the minister told.
Announcing to initiate two more trains on December 25, Rasheed further informed that new double track of railway is in progress from Karachi en route Rawalpindi to Peshawar.
The federal minister also announced to grant compensation to people who are living on railway tracks. There are 10,000 houses built on 66,000 acre land of the railway, he noted.
“Rawalpindi is on number one when it comes to children’s education,” Sheikh said, adding that this city gave birth to several renowned leaders.
