ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday constituted a team to investigate the theft of underground water by the cement factories.
The Supreme Court-mandated committee will investigate private factories, DG Cement and Bestway Cement, in one day. The team was formed during the hearing of a case pertaining to the theft of underground water by cement factories.
A three-member bench presided over by SC Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar conducted the hearing of the case.
The chief justice, during the hearing, remarked, “What will happen if these big companies are caught red-handed while using stolen water? Earlier, we had ordered not to register cases against them.”
The chief justice further remarked that the situation will be clear when the team investigates the matter.
The civil society representative took the stance in the court that the cultivation was continued on the piece of land which was reserved for a cement plant. He said running a cement plant is not possible with 15 cusec feet water.
The representative further said that the cement factories submitted their warranties in the court.
