ISLAMABAD: Cases were registered against 500 people in the capital and they have been charged for violent demonstrations and damaging public property.
Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat said that 12 people were apprehended for causing destruction to public property while orders for sending 19 people to jail were under process.
According to the Islamabad DC, 33 people caused damages to public property and held violent protests had been identified and the process to make further arrests was underway.
On October 31, the Supreme Court (SC), while setting aside the decision of a subordinate court of awarding death sentence to Aasiya Bibi in a blasphemy case, acquitted her. After this, religious parties held demonstrations all over the country against the decision and caused damages to public property. The protests were later called off after Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) signed an agreement with the government.
On November 4, the interior ministry set up a complaint cell and asked people to help the authorities in identifying the miscreants.
