CDA starts plantation drive of olive trees in capital

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has launched a plantation drive of olive trees at different areas of Islamabad in collaboration with National Agriculture Research Council (PARC).

In the first phase of said drive CDA is going to plant 5000 olive trees.

Member Environment Syed Mustafain Kazmi briefed the Chairman CDA about the plantation drive. The Chairman CDA alongwith Member Administration, Amer Ali Ahmed inspected the area.

While planting an olive sapling at the green belt along the Kashmir Highway, the Chairman CDA, Maroof Afzal informed that these olive trees will not only give fruits but their seeds will also be used for extraction of olive oil.

Chairman CDA said that olive plant is unique in its nature and during the next phase thousands of olive plants will be planted in the Islamabad so that besides significant increase in the green character of the city, maximum benefit could be obtained from these olive plants.

The idea of launching plantation of olive trees is to enhance the awareness among the citizens and persuade them to come forward and join hands with CDA for the improvement of the environment of the Capital.

Chairman CDA further said that Islamabad is unique city for its green character and CDA is concentrating on such constructive projects, beside monsoon and spring annual tree plantation drives, which will not only help enhance the green character of the city but benefit will also be obtained from the utility of these plants.

He said that CDA is paying special attention in plantation of seasonal flowers and ornamental trees and in this connection plan has also been devised to beautify the entry points of Islamabad. He said that CDA is preferring to plant local fruit, flowering and shady species according to the local weather conditions so that maximum benefit could be achieved from these plants.

CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal directed the Environment Wing for taking proper care of olive saplings planted along the Kashmir Highway.

The chairman while appreciating the cooperation of PARC said that CDA will further beautify and enhance the green character of Islamabad in collaboration with different organization.

He directed the Environment Wing to take effective steps for planting olive saplings after successful completion of first phase, so that proper growth of olive trees could be ensured in different areas of federal capital.
