KARACHI: Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister on Information, Law and Anti-Corruption Murtaza Wahab on Monday emphasised upon a comprehensive plan to cope with natural calamities and guidelines for the general public to minimise damages to life and properties during the days of an emergency.
While addressing the walk organised to mark the national disaster day by Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA)-Sindh at Sea View, he said that 8th October is not only a day to remember earthquake victims, but it is a call for government and communities to take necessary measures for building disaster resilient nation to deal future natural disasters,
He called upon media to play its role to raise awareness among the masses through educating common man about disaster preparedness and responses.
Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that the floods, torrential rains and drought are major challenges faced by the province. “During massive floods in 2010, the Sindh government had gone through huge exercise to rescue millions of flood-hit people of ten districts of the province and successfully completed the rehabilitation process,” the provincial advisor said and added that Sindh government is taking measures to transform PDMA-Sindh into a well-equipped professional body so that quick and timely response could be initiated in case of any disaster to minimise the losses.
Provincial advisor on the occasion remembered the people of 2005 earth quick disaster and paid rich tributes to martyrs and expressed solidarity with families who bear great losses.
On the occasion, candles were also lit in memory of 2005 earth quick victims. The walk was attended by a large number of people from different walks of life. Secretary Rehabilitation Sindh was also present in the walk.
