- DC Hamza Shafqaat says district admin all set to tackle encroachments in rural, urban areas
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA) and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) with the help of the Capital Police commenced various ‘across the board’ operations against counterfeit manufacturers of medicines and eatables, child labour and encroachments.
On directions of Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat, the district administration led by AC Rural Muhammad Waqar, Assistant Director Zulfiqar Junejo and enforcement from the Sihala police station started massive action in Humak Industrial Zone where they sealed two factories producing counterfeit cold drinks and mineral water of famous multinational brand and registered police case against owners.
Another factory producing chips and biscuits of substandard quality have been sealed along with a manufacturing unit of veterinary medicines. While continuing their operation against counterfeit manufacturers, the district administration has also continued its drive against illegal possession and encroachments. The CDA and the District Administration has freed two government plots illegally occupied by erecting boundary wall.
The boundary wall was razed and the possession restored to the civic agency. Authorities have also freed 15 children working illegally in a stone crushing factory in the Industrial Area. Cases have been registered against culprits in the Sihala police station. It is pertinent to mention that since all three civic agencies are under the Ministry of Interior the responsiveness of actions have increased manifolds.
Now CDA, MCI, ICTA and the Capital Police, all four pillars of the civil administration, are under the Ministry of Interior the parallel jurisdictions along with inter-departmental rifts have come to an end. Now, CDA under the command and control of the Interior Ministry, the operations against encroachments are not only streamlined the overall working of the civic machinery but also put an end to incidents where district administration has denied personnel and resources for encroachment operations.
Talking to Pakistan Today, Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat said that the operation against encroachers, counterfeit manufacturers of goods and child labour would continue till the city rid of such elements. “We are all set to undertake operations across the city, without fear or favour of anyone and won’t back down,” he said, adding that the district administration was all set to go against encroachments in rural and urban Islamabad in coming days.
Previously, the government in its first month in power has gained control of estate and land worth more than Rs 300 billion and cleared the entire three kilometres tract of the land on both sides of the Kashmir Highway from illegal occupation and encroachment by marquees, workshops and restaurants.
