Prime Minister Imran Khan is set to make his first major appointment in the Pakistan Army, a local media outlet reported on Sunday.
PM Imran is expected to appoint a new chief of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) as the current head Lt-General Naveed Mukhtar is to retire this month.
According to reports, the new ISI chief would be picked from the six major generals recently promoted to the rank of lieutenant general.
Maj Gen Shaheen Mazhar, Maj Gen Nadeem Zaki Manj, Maj Gen Abdul Aziz, Maj Gen Asim Munir, Maj Gen Adnan and Maj Gen Waseem Ashraf were promoted last week.
According to reports, Lt General Nadeem Zaki Manj, Lt General Asim Munir and Lt General Waseem Ashraf are top contenders for the post because of their experience with intelligence matters.
The prime minister is expected to appoint the new ISI chief with recommendations from the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
