Campaigning for by-polls have begun in the NA-124 and NA-131 constituency. There is a lack of grandeur in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) campaigns mostly because the party refused to show support to the candidates and also owing to differences within the party.

According to a local media report, Humayun Akhtar Khan, brother of PML-N Senator Haroon Akhtar, failed to carry out a successful campaign as yet in his constituency NA-131- comprising Walton, Defence, Cantonment, Nishat Colony, Qainchi, Chungi Amar Sidhu.

Having said that, a PTI official quoted by the local media outlet said that the main reason by Humayun’s  “poor campaign” is because no party leader from Lahore is willing to support an “outsider who was given the ticket”.

A woman worker from the party was of a similar opinion as well. Similarly, former PTI Lahore president Waleed Iqbal had initially run the campaign for Humayun. Now, he is nowhere to be seen.

In the NA-124 constituency, PTI candidate Dewan Ghulam Mohayuddin has been running his campaign on his own.

The constituency consists of parts of old Lahore, where the PTI candidate helps corner meetings along with party councillors.

But as compared to PML-N candidate, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, he has yet to put up an impressive show in the constituency.

On the other hand, both PML-N candidates – Abbasi and Rafique – have the full backing of their leadership.
