Dr Ameer Muhammad Khan Jogezai on Saturday evening refused Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) offer of Balochistan governorship.
In a video message, he said that he was thankful to Prime Minister Imran Khan and Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) for putting their faith in him.
He said that there has been no case registered against him since 2005.
Dr Jogezai’s refusal comes after the PTI leadership decided to appoint Dr Ameer Muhammad Khan Jogezai as the new Balochistan governor.
Dr Jogezai is a pediatrician by profession and has also served as the registrar in Quetta’s Bolan Medical College.
According to reports, the PTI’s nominee was investigated by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in 2015 for corrupt practices when he was the chief executive officer of Quetta’s Kidney Centre
According to NAB, Dr Jogezai had allegedly embezzled money in the procurement of medical equipment besides misappropriating funds of the Kidney Centre, causing a loss of Rs 61 million to the national exchequer. The investigation against him is still underway.
Dr Jogezai’s elder brother Sardar Gul Mohammad Khan Jogezai has also served as the Balochistan governor from 1991 to 1994.
Following the July 25 general elections, a six-party alliance comprising Balochistan Awami Party, Awami National Party, PTI, Hazara Democratic Party, Balochistan National Party-Awami and Jamhoori Watan Party formed the government in Balochistan.
