Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) Chancellor ZA Nizami has ordered provision of all required facilities in the three common rooms for female students at the private university.
An SSUET official said on Tuesday that the chancellor had issued the directive while reviewing the problems being faced by the university’s female students.
Earlier, Girls’ Students Affairs Committee in-charge Attiya Abid Ali informed the chancellor that the three girls’ common rooms cater to the requirements of around 586 female students out of the total of around 5,500 students. Pointing out that importance is given to problems of female students in coeducation systems, Nizami expressed that there should not be even a minor irregularity in the campus regarding girl students, who are supposed to preserve the university’s prestige.
Giving the go-ahead to proposals given by the girls’ committee members, which among other things called for organising cultural and other related activities for girls, including visits to historical places, reputed art schools and museums, besides organising picnics, talent shows and cooking competitions.
The SSUET Chancellor also directed that female security guards and female naib qasids be provided for the girls’ common rooms.
