QUETTA: The Awami National Party (ANP) Balochistan chapter made a political alliance with the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) on Sunday to form the next provincial government, according to local media reports.

During a joint press conference at the Arbab House in Quetta, ANP provincial President Asghar Khan Achakzai and BAP President Jam Kamal made the announcement and said that the name of the next CM would be announced within three days. The alliance strengthened BAP’s position in the province to elect its chief minister.

Meanwhile, sources have revealed that the talks between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and BAP have failed to yield the expected results as the former was adamant on having its own Balochistan chief minister.

Addressing the joint press conference, Achakzai said that the two parties have developed “complete consensus” and ANP has decided “to walk with BAP to form the next provincial government that will be in complete favour of the people of Balochistan.”

He added that his party has given their full support to the BAP as the “people of Balochistan have given their mandate to BAP, therefore, by respecting the public mandate we should support the leading party.”

BAP President Kamal lauded the ANP and BAP’s political alliance and vowed that both the parties would strive together for the prosperity of the people of Balochistan.

“We have intensified contacts with all political parties in Balochistan. Today, ANP announced its full support for BAP. All victorious parties should join our fold for a bright future of Balochistan,” Kamal said.

He added, “We are approaching PTI, BNP-M, JUI-F and HDP as with their positive response name of the next chief minister will be announced in two or three days.”
