MULTAN: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and his caravan electioneering for 2018 polls were stopped by Multan’s district management on Monday where they were obstructed from addressing the rallies.
“We took permission from the relevant authorities for all our rallies. Trying to stop PPP Chairman from holding rallies in Punjab clearly shows some forces are scared of PPP’s success,” said Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, spokesman to the chairman.
Bilawal also lashed out against the authorities for the hindrance. “Creating hurdles, either by stone-pelters in Lyari, Punjab Police in Uch Sharif or district management in Multan will not stop us from campaigning and taking our mission forward. We are not afraid of such trouble-makers. The PPP is used to these dirty tricks,” said Chairman Bilawal Bhutto.
Senator Khokhar said by trying to harass the party in such haphazard manner, the PPP’s opponents are clearly displaying their frustration. “By doing this, they are only boosting our morale because we know how much they fear our success and strength,” he said.
ECP DEMANDS UCH SHARIF PROBE:
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has ordered the Punjab government to hold an inquiry into the incident of the alleged stopping of campaign convoy of PPP chairman at Uch Sharif.
In a statement on Monday, the commission said if the provincial government finds flaws in the conduct of local officers, the commission will take action against the responsible.
The PPP leaders, in their letters to the ECP, had accused certain police officials of obstructing their election campaign.
PPP Chairman will reach Lahore on Monday night. He will attend a party meeting the next day, which has been convened to discuss the current political situation. He will then continue with his campaign trail with public gatherings scheduled in Peshawar, Malakand and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
