EU will assist Pakistani security agencies

ISLAMABAD: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the programme ‘Civilian Capacity Building for Law-Enforcement in Pakistan’ aimed at assisting Pakistan for capacity building of its law enforcement agencies and to enhance the capability of the National Counter-Terrorism Authority (NACTA) was signed between the European Union (EU) and Pakistan on Wednesday.
According to MoU, EU would provide technical assistance to build the capacity of provincial police forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab to handle media relations and criminal investigations. The MoU was signed by Secretary Economic Affairs Division Sibtain Fazal Halim, Interior Secretary Qamar Zaman and EU Ambassador to Pakistan Jan de Kok.
The programme will be implemented through bilateral advice, training workshops, study tours and field and desk research. The promotion of human rights, democracy and fundamental freedom will be given significant attention during the project implementation through sustainable training packages.
Pakistan welcomed EU assistance and extended its full support and cooperation for implementation of the programme.
