KARACHI: The judicial commission, which was constituted by the Sindh government to investigate the Tori Bund breach that flooded many areas of the province during the recent disaster, submitted its report to the government on Wednesday.
The senior member of the commission, Justice (r) Zahid Qurban Alvi, handed over the sealed report to Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah at the Chief Minister’s House. The other member of the commission, Justice (r) Ghulam Nabi Soomro, also accompanied him on the occasion.
Talking to the media, Alvi refused to reveal whether the Tori Bund breach was artificial or not, or if any action could be taken against the guilty, if any, in light of the report.
He said that the commission had submitted its report to the CM with a request that it should be made public at the earliest. According to sources at the Chief Minister’s House, it was likely that Qaim would disclose the findings of the report at a press conference soon. Alvi said that according to the rules, the CM would examine the report and send it to the Sindh Home Department.
Later, the department would send it back to Qaim after summarising it, he added. However, Alvi said that the commission had made some recommendations to the government about some steps that could be taken in the future to avoid such devastation again.
