LAHORE: Resentment in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ranks against its media team has increased after it has brought embarrassment to the party on a number of issues, a local media outlet reported on Monday.
Fawad Chaudhry, a former spokesperson of Pervez Musharraf’s All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) is the current chief of PTI’s media wing. In the past, Fawad Chaudhry had been part of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). According to sources, Chaudhry is attempting to receive two tickets to contest in the upcoming general elections, one for the National Assembly and the other for the Provincial Assembly.
According to media reports, Fawad Chaudhry wants to contest on the Provincial Assembly ticket so that he could become a candidate for the post of Punjab chief minister or leader of the opposition.
Chaudhry became the head of PTI’s media wing within years of joining the party by quickly gaining party chairman Imran Khan’s trust. However, the party has had to face criticism over contradictory and vague statements given to the media in recent past.
The most recent example of mismanagement and poor communication was the party’s stance on the role of caretaker chief minister for Punjab where its position changed within a matter of hours.
Mian Mehmoodul-Rasheed had expressed disappointment over the incident during a meeting with Imran Khan. Another incident that brought embarrassment for the party was over clear miscommunication within the party with regards to the joining of PTI by Farooq Bandial and Dost Mohammad Khosa.
