KARACHI: Mayor Waseem Akhtar said on Sunday that contractual employees are part of the manpower like regular employees in Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and their problems should be solved soon so that they could perform their duties with full concentration and in a better way.

Our topmost priority is that all contract employees get permanent jobs and protection for which efforts are underway, he said while addressing a high level meeting on the recruitments in KMC.

The meeting was also attended by Municipal Commissioner Dr Saif-ur-Rehman, Finance Committee Chairman Nadeem Hidayat, Parks Committee Chairman Khurram Farhan, Advisor to Karachi Farhat Khan, Human Resource Management Senior Director Tasneem Ahmed, Director Technical to Mayor SM Shakaib, Director Jamil Farooqui and other officers.

Mayor said, “We did not want to deprive anyone of his job because this is an issue of the whole family and not of just one person.” He said the appointment procedure at KMC would be made transparent and in accordance with the rules and regulations. Priority will be given to contractual staff on the basis of their experience, he said.

“We want to solve the issue of contract employees on permanent basis and all directives of the Supreme Court and the rules given in the SLGO 2013 will be considered while appointing the staff in KMC,” he said.

A committee was formed headed by the municipal commissioner which will decide such cases after reviewing the legal and other aspects.

PARKS AND PLAYGROUNDS ARE PUBLIC PROPERTY:

Separately, Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar said that parks and playgrounds are public property and therefore no encroachments would be allowed in the parks.

“We need to promote healthy activities among our youth so that their energy could be used in a better dimension. KMC is providing better sports and recreational facilities to people besides providing them basic municipal amenities,” he maintained.
